Using Excel 2003 - 2.5) How to Load Data from a Text file
Although there are a number of different file extensions (.dat, .fp1, .flu, etc.) for data files saved by in-house written software in the lab, they are all in fact text files, and can all therefore be loaded into Excel in the same way.
- Select File and then Open... from the Menu Bar.
- In the box next to Files of type: make sure All Files has been selected.
- Browse through the drives and directories until you find your data file, which you should double-click on.
- The box for Step 1 of the Text Import Wizard should appear. Ensure that the Delimited option has been ticked, then click on Next >.
- The box for Step 2 of the Text Import Wizard should now appear. Ensure that the boxes to the left of Tab, Space and Semi-colon (under Delimiters) have been ticked, then click on Finish.
- The data from the text file will now be loaded and will appear as a new workbook in Excel.
